Born in Auckland, John Speedy has been involved in art all of his life. After training with prominent New Zealand artists he left school teaching in 1973 to follow his career as a professional artist. John has won many prominent awards. He has held numerous exhibitions in New Zealand and exhibited widely, with considerable success in Australia, Great Britain and Taiwan. John Speedy's paintings have been purchased by art lovers all over the world, and he has completed many notable commissions for large companies in various parts of the world, and for two New Zealand Prime Ministers. A versatile artist who has enjoyed considerable success in oils, water colours and acrylics, with his subjects ranging from children's portraits, equestrain paintings, maritime scenes, to historical canvases. In 1976 he was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, London.
